DoJ Interim Final Rule The Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act, which was enacted on October 15, 2008, amended the Controlled Substances Act and Controlled Substances Import and Export Act by adding several new provisions to prevent the illegal distribution and dispensing of controlled substances by means of the Internet. The Drug Enforcement Administration is hereby issuing an interim rule to amend its regulations to implement the legislation and is requesting comments on the interim rule. For further information you may contact: Mark W. Caverly at (202) 307-7297. This interim rule is effective April 13, 2009, except §§ 1300.04, 1301.19, and 1304.40, which are effective April 6, 2009. Section 1300.04(i) (the definition of “practice of telemedicine”) has an implementation date of January 15, 2010, unless such date is superseded by future regulatory actions as explained in the SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION section. Comments must be received on or before June 5, 2009.
